Modern Technology

Believe it or not, we still have a VCR hooked up. I'm downstairs playing on the computer tonight, and Isaiah is down here with me. He has a few toys in the basement, but not too many. I put in a movie for him - A Bug's Life - to keep him entertained. It's the VHS version since I don't have this one on DVD.

I had to rewind the tape to start it. Irritating! Then I had to fast forward thru all of the previews at the beginning. Ugh.

All I have to say is thank goodness for the Menu button on DVD remotes!

Crazy Kids

I love my children more than I could ever put into words, but man oh man.

See the kinds of things I've been dealing with?

Tim has promised me that he'll watch the kids so I can get some things done around the house tomorrow. Hopefully, this will actually happen.

To make things even better, Mallory has this thing against sleeping. I'm trying a technique called Pick Up/Put Down, but the book says it's horrendous the first week. Well, that's no lie! I had to get out of bed SIXTEEN times last night. Ugh. I have to stick with it and give it a try, though.

Any of you fellow mommies out there - what did you do with your baby who never wanted to sleep?

Last Minute Getaway

Tim came home from church Thursday night, and said, "We need a night away!" So, we loaded the kids up Friday, and headed for Lincolnshire, IL.

Mallory found another baby to play with in the hotel room. Isn't it cute how they're holding hands? :-)

Friday night we had dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House. We fed Isaiah McDonald's beforehand. We didn't want to order him a filet and risk him not eating it - haha. We both started with a tomato crab soup. It was quite tasty, with a bit of a kick to it. My main course was a petite filet mignon with grilled shrimp, and Tim has lamp chops. My side was mashed potatoes, and Tim ordered green beans. We shared our sides, which worked out really well. The special we ordered came with dessert - raspberry sorbet in a chocolate cup and sweet cream with berries. YUMMY!!!!

Before heading home on Saturday, we stopped at the Gurnee Mills Shopping Center. They have a Bass Pro Shop (see pictures below), and Isaiah was in need of new shoes.

Lunch at Chancery - a Wisconsin favorite of ours. Too bad there's not one in Appleton. :-(

What an excellent idea! The night away was tons of fun!

5 Months Old...A Week Late

Mallory found her toes this past weekend.

Isaiah made me laugh today. He fell asleep for him nap on his bedroom floor. I went upstairs to check on him, and when I peeked in his room he was sitting up, awake. I saw him look up at his bed and say, "Oh no!" Then what does he do? He laid back down on the floor and went back to sleep. I tried to take his picture, but my camera battery was exhausted.

If you ever need someone to cheer you up, my kids could do it. They both have such personality! And I have no idea, whatsoever, where they get being stubborn from. haha

Too Much

Do you ever feel like you have too much going on? (Rhetorical question - needs no response.)

I thought for sure that I would feel much more relaxed once school dismissed for the summer. WRONG! There never seems to be enough time in the day. My To Do list only seems to get longer and longer. The sad part is, it keeps getting longer because I keep thinking of things to add that I should have gotten done a long time ago.

It's almost like I'm overwhelmed by all that needs to be done. If you know me at all, then you know that I'm not one to ask for help. I don't really like to accept it, either. I have no idea why. Some people might say that I need to get over that. I think it's my independent personality. I haven't always been so independent, but I feel more pride in things when I do them myself. I realize that there is nothing wrong with asking for help.

This must be a confusing post. I just feel like venting, and this is as good a place as any. This is my blog, after all, and I can write about anything I want. Tim's not home right now, and both kids are sleeping. Despite all that needs to get done, I think I'm going to go sit and do nothing for awhile.

P.S. Beware if you offer to help. You might end up washing our diry underwear. I tend to keep the fun jobs for myself when I do accept help. haha

Run, Becky, Run

I've started doing something that I never thought I could do. I'm running.

I don't know why I never thought I could be a runner. I guess I have just always been intimidated by any kind of physical activity. Well, I got myself a good pair of running shoes, and I'm in business!

To avoid injuring myself, I'm taking it pretty easy to start. Yesterday, I alternated walking for 90 seconds and running for 60 seconds. Today, I alternated running and walking for 90 seconds. I made just over the 2 mile mark in 30 minutes.

My goal for the summer is to be able to run 2 miles, without walking.

As Isaiah's beloved trains say, "I think I can! I think I can!"

Memorial Day Trip, Part 1

The Cardinals were in town for Memorial Day weekend, so we thought we would take Mallory to her first game. The game wasn't until Monday, but we arrived on Sunday afternoon to make it a mini-vacation.

I waited in the car while Tim checked in at the hotel. When he came out to get us, he was laughing.

Apparently, he was the guest of the day!

We could have gotten a free movie in our room, but our room package had already come with that.

Getting ready for the pool

Mallory looked so sweet in her new bathing suit! Isaiah has new Thomas the Train trunks. He loves them so much; he carries them around when he's not wearing them.

The water in the (indoor) pool was very, very cold. Daddy and Isaiah were the only brave ones. Mallory and I dangled our feet in and just watched.

Our hotel package also included a gift card for supper at the Big Thunder Grill. (I think that's what it was called.) Apparently, it is affiliated with The Machine Shed, which is one of my favorite places to eat.

Our room was on the second floor, with a view of the pool. Isaiah watched people swimming through the window and Mallory slept, so Tim and I were actually able to watch a movie. We chose Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood. The language in it was horrific, but it turned out to be an excellent movie. It had a strong theme, and left us thinking about it for quite a while after watching it.

A Scary First

Isaiah and Mallory had a scary first a couple of weeks ago. Tim had just picked them up from Jen's house, and they had a minor car accident on the way home.

The damage isn't too bad. The car is going in to be fixed on Monday already.

No one was hurt! Some kid tried to make a left turn crossing Tim's path, but obviously he didn't have enough time to do it. Tim was fortunate to have some witnesses stop and let the police know that he was not at fault.

Isaiah and Mallory were good through it all. Isaiah cried at first, but settled down quickly. Mallory didn't cry at all. This is surprising, since she seems to cry a lot any other time - hahaha. She's our fussy baby, but we love her!

I can't find the words to describe how scary this was for me, even though I wasn't even there. I had just left work, so I was 40 minutes away. Tim and I both notice now the bad choices people make while driving. Please, don't pull out unless you KNOW that you have enough time to go.

We are very thankful that no one was hurt. Drive safely to wherever you are going. Driving without thinking because you are in a hurry could hurt in the long run - for you or someone else.
